A revealing white paper titled Data Centers: What Do We Need All This Data For? A Mathematical Analysis, published on September 22, 2026, takes a look at the heavy push for ever more data centers all over the U.S. and asks, “What is the real reason for transmitting, storing, and processing all this data?”

The authors are Team Cash leader Susan Luschas and her husband Manuel Luschas. With Silicon Valley backgrounds in electrical engineering and digital communication technology, they are extremely well qualified to approach the question from a mathematical standpoint. Solari selected Susan as Hero of the Year in 2025 for her stellar and effective efforts on behalf of cash, and Manuel was Hero of the Week in June 2026 after winning his grassroots primary race as a Republican candidate in South Dakota’s House District 2.

The white paper takes a look at data center consumption now—and at projections for the future—and asks whether the plans for additional data centers “make sense”:

“In 2030, the USA is predicted to have 148.2GW of data center power consumption for a need of 17.7GW. This is more than a factor of 8 times more power than citizens would need. Why is so much extra power needed? What is all this power for?”

For an answer, they point to the short film Utopia, which illustrates the dystopian implications of a cashless, surveillance-state world and highlights the likely reasons for data center overcapacity: control and surveillance on a citizen-by-citizen basis. As the white paper’s two authors conclude, “It is unclear … what else this overcapacity of data center compute power could be used for.”
